ANZ Hot Shots Match Play

ANZ Tennis Hot Shots (ANZTHS) Match Play are the perfect way for children to experience their first team tennis competition. There are two competition categories that cater for players of different standards – The 10/u Orange Balland the 10/u Green Ball.

Orange Ball League (5—8 year olds)

The orange ball leagues are aimed at children who are beginning to play the sport and have developed an understanding of tennis through Hot Shots coaching, Community Play or at school.

Green Ball League (7—12 year olds)

The green ball leagues are aimed at children who have some experience in playing the sport and are participating regularly in ANZ Tennis Hot Shots coaching, Community Play or tennis at school, or have progressed from an Orange Ball League.

Inter Club Competition (WDTA)

Waverley Tennis runs two Junior (18 and under) competitions.

  • Saturday morning starts at 8.15am finishing by 12.15pm with sections from Presidents Cup to D Grade.
  • Sunday morning starts at 9.00am finishing by 12.30pm with sections from A Reserve to D Grade.

Two seasons are played each year. Summer season starts in October and goes to March. Winter season starts in April and goes to September.

A variety of competition formats are played including Rubbers, Triples and Doubles. Saturday has Boys, Girls, Unisex and Open competitions while Sunday is all Open.

All D grade matches are played using the low compression balls. They are softer and don't bounce as high, allowing for extended rallies as they travel at a slower speed.

Tennis Australia Tournaments

There are dozens of junior tournaments played across Australia each year, which are categorised as follows:

  • Non- ranking points tournaments (Junior Development Series)
  • Ranking points tournaments (Junior Tournaments)
  • Junior ITF tournaments (ITF Juniors)
  • December Showdown
  • School Championships (Bruce Cup for Primary Schools & Pizzey Cup for Secondary Schools)

The Junior Development Series is a group of tournaments managed by each state tennis association for beginner to intermediate players. Australian Ranking Points are not on offer at these events.

The Junior Tournaments (JT) is an umbrella tour that offers Australian Ranking Points and a clear competitive pathway for aspiring players.
